The midgut of Haemonchus contortus was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. It is composed of a monolayer epithelium with non-defined edges. The epithelium has numerous microvilli ~6.5 micron in length, which are arranged parallel to each other. The centre of the microvillus contains a filament. The nucleus is in the centre of the cell, which has a large nucleolus, condensed chromatin and is highly electron dense in section preparations.
