Alley cropping Gliricidia sepium with maize: 1. The effect of hedgerow spacing, pruning height and phosphorus application rate on maize yield

Alley cropping Gliricidia sepium with maize: 1. The effect of hedgerow spacing, pruning height and phosphorus application rate on maize yield

Journal of Biological Sciences 4(2): 81-86

G. sepium seedlings were planted at 4, 6 or 8 m; pruned to 50, 100 or 150 cm in height; and supplied with 0, 20 or 40 kg P/ha in a field experiment conducted in 1996-98 in Ghana to determine the effects of hedgegrow spacing, pruning height and phosphorus application on the yield of maize as a test crop. Pruned G. sepium biomass yield decreased with decreasing pruning height.
