An integrated approach to assess sustainability in dairy farms of Costa Rica: 2. Calculation of sustainability indexes

Livestock Research for Rural Development 16(12): article 96

A matrix of indicators was implemented to estimate and to compare the level of sustainability of six dairy farms, located in Cartago, Poas and San Carlos; Costa Rica. The methodology included five stages: determination of current values of reference, the standardization, pondering, aggregation and the use of graphs. A sustainability aggregated index was obtained from this methodology, whose values range between 0 and 1 (optimum).
