Application of anther culture and molecular markers to a pepper breeding program for disease resistance

Application of anther culture and molecular markers to a pepper breeding program for disease resistance

Capsicum and Eggplant Newsletter (23): 105-108

Plantlets of 6 pepper lines obtained via anther culture were evaluated for their resistance to Phytophthora capsici, potato virus Y (PVY) and tomato mosaic virus (ToMV). Plantlets were inoculated by irrigation with a Phytophthora capsici suspension (104-105 zoospores/ml). Line 4 was the most susceptible to P. capsici, with only 42% resistant plants, which was attributed to the use of susceptible lines as recurrent parents in the last backcrosses used this line.
