Application of the temporary immersion system (TIS) for in vitro culture of several ornamental plants

Preliminary trials to grow ornamental and medicinal plants in RITA system, which provide a temporary contact between the biomass and the liquid medium, were carried out with several tissues: shoots of Gardenia jasminoides and Zantedeschia aethiopica, hairy roots of Astragalus verrucosus and Hypericum perforatum, and embryogenic callus of Cyclamen persicum. The material was grown in normal multiplication media previously determined but in the absence of the gelling agent.
