Components of variance of growth traits in performance tested simmental bulls

Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry 18(5/6): 23-30

In order to determine components of variances and heritabilities of growth traits in performance testing, data of 371 performance tested Simmental bulls were studied (Yugoslavia). Results showed that heritability estimates for pre-test average daily gain (ADG), in-test and lifetime ADG were 0.27, 0.39 and 0.29, respectively. Heritability estimates for pre-test relative growth rate (RGR), in-test and lifetime RGR were 0.22, 0.32 and 0.26, respectively.
