Composition and structure of tree species in a riparian forest regenerated after extensive clear-cutting in northeastern Iwate Prefecture

Composition and structure of tree species in a riparian forest regenerated after extensive clear-cutting in northeastern Iwate Prefecture

Tohoku Journal of Forest Science 9(2): 77-85

The composition and structure of tree species were investigated in natural forests before extensive clear-cutting and in a riparian secondary forest after clear-cutting in Iwate Prefecture, northern Japan. Before clear-cutting, the shade-tolerant species Aesculus turbinata and the long-lived species Cercidiphyllum japonicum dominated, with many large trees of 50 cm or more in DBH in the natural forests.
