Consumption and utilization of Machilus bombycina, King and Litsaea polyantha, Juss by Antheraea assama, Westwood during different seasons under indoor rearing

The efficacy of tray rearing of A. assama on M. bombycina and Litsea polyantha during the winter, spring, summer and autumn was determined. Consumption index and growth rate gradually increased from the first to the fifth instar regardless of the season and host plant used. Approximate digestion was higher during the early instars and decreased with the development of the larvae. Conversion of the ingested and digested food were highest in the first instar and lowest in the fifth instar.
