Economic security in sugarcane production through intercropping

On-station studies at PDCSR, Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India and on-farm studies in Bubakpur village, Meerut were conducted, under the National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP) during 1999-2001, to determine the most suitable and profitable sugarcane intercrop. The tested intercrops were include potato, mustard, green gram, black gram, chickpea and wheat. Under autumn conditions, potato followed by wheat gave a high yield in terms of wheat equivalent yield.
