Greenhouse experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of ethephon (a source of ethylene) on the growth, decorative value and corm yields of three genetically short Freesia cultivars (Gompey, Suzy and Popey). Ethephon was applied at 0.3-4.8 ml/dm3 (125-2000 mg ethephon/dm3). Prior to planting, corms were soaked for 24 h in ethephon solution at 125, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg/dm3. Neutralized sphagnum peat supplemented with Osmocote Plus was the growing medium.
