Effect of planting density and nitrogen levels on growth and flower production of calendula (Calendula officinalis L.)

The effects of planting density (30x20 cm, 30x30 cm, 45x30 cm and 45x45 cm) and nitrogen application (0, 60, 100 and 140 kg/ha) on the growth and flower production of C. officinalis were determined in a field experiment conducted in Akola, Maharashtra, India during the winter of 1999-2000. The number of leaves and branches, and leaf area increased, whereas the loose flower yield per plot of the crop decreased with increasing planting density. Plant height was highest with 30x30 cm spacing.
