Effects of forms and levels of nitrogen and levels of calcium on bitter pit incidence in 'Fuji' apples (Malus domestica Borkh.)

The effects of different forms and levels of N and levels of Ca applied to water culture on bitter pit incidence and mineral contents of fruits and leaves of apple Fuji were investigated. The NH4-N group showed significantly higher N contents in both fruits and leaves than those of the NO3-N group. Ca concentration was decreased in the NH2-N group. The NH2-N group showed the middle range in the contents of N and Ca. Bitter pit incidence in the NH4-N group was the highest among the treatments.
