The intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) can prevent many diseases such as coronary heart disease, cancer, diabetes and hypertension. Because of the beneficial effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on human health, people should consume these polyunsaturated fatty acids from animal products. The animal products must contain EPA and DHA for human health and adequate nutrition.
