The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the temperature (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 degrees C) and planting date (15 February, 15 March, 15 April, 15 May and 15 June) on the emergence, growth and yield of turmeric (C. longa) plants in Okinawa Prefecture, Southern Japan. Temperature range of 25-35 degrees C was optimum for the sprouting of turmeric rhizome-buds, and sprouting did not occur below 10 or above 40 degrees C.
