Efficacy of ethyl acetate extract of a fern, Lygodium microphyllum against the asian army worm, Spodoptera litura (Fabr.)

The antifeedent activity of the crude ethyl acetate extract of Lygodium microphyllum was evaluated against the 3rd instar larvae of Spodoptera litura in the laboratory at different concentrations, i.e. 1, 3, 5 and 7%. The mean per cent feeding was 39.54% and per cent protection due to treatment was 32.15% with an extract concentration of 3%. Furthermore, adult emergence (per cent survival) was low (42.4%) when compared to the control.
