Efficacy of new insecticides as seedling root dip treatment against yellow stem borer in rabi rice

Four new insecticides, imidacloprid, ethofenprox fipronil (at 0.01%) and carbosulfan (at 0.02%), were tested as seedling root dip treatment against the yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) along with chlorpyrifos during the rabi season in Orissa, India. Fipronil was found promising in controlling the pest as well as increasing rice grain yield. Imidacloprid and carbofuran were next in the order of effectiveness.
