Environmental and genetic factors affecting first lactation milk yield, peak milk yield and persistency of lactation in Nili-Ravi buffaloes

Data on 262 first lactation records of Nili Ravi Buffaloes maintained at the Livestock Experiment Station, Bahadurnagar (Okara), Pakistan during 1990-2002 were analysed to determine the effects of year/season of calving, duration to attain peak milk yield (months) and lactation length on the first lactation milk yield (FLMY), peak milk yield and persistency of lactation. It was shown that the lactation milk yield and peak milk yield averaged 1774+or-25.4 and 235+or-3.42 kg, respectively.
