Estimated effect of the MC4R genotype on the performance of growth characteristics, carcass composition and meat quality in French pig populations

Estimated effect of the MC4R genotype on the performance of growth characteristics, carcass composition and meat quality in French pig populations

Techni Porc 28(3): 11-16, 2

The aim of this study was to identify a possible relationship between MC4R polymorphism and the performances of certain growth characteristics, carcass composition and meat quality in a sample of pig populations in France. The results revealed a relationship between MC4R genotype and the quantity of fatty tissue, and thus the lean muscle content of the carcass. A non-significant trend between MC4R genotype and animal growth rate was also observed.
