Evaluation of the combining ability of inbred lines derived from purple waxy maize (Zea mays L.) germplasm

Determination of the relative combining ability of purple waxy maize (Z. mays) inbred lines is an important feature of applied maize breeding programme. Combining ability was measured by the relative performance of a line in testcrosses to five testers (CIMMYT CML76 inbred line and Tainan-white inbred lines TNWE, TNWF, TNWG and TNWH with white non-waxy endosperm). The inbred lines were derived from Taichung purple waxy (PB) population, evaluated at the S5 generation.
