Heterosis and inter-relationship between seed-cotton yield and qualitative characters in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

A trial was carried out in Haryana, India during 2002-03 to study the magnitude of useful heterosis in 58 crosses of upland cotton (G. hirsutum) for seed cotton yield and qualitative characters. Maximum heterosis for seed cotton yield was observed in the cross-combination 'HS 6' x 'RST 9', ginning outturn in 'HS 6' x 'RST 9', 'HS 6' x 'H 1098' and 'Vikram 11 M' x 'Vikram 11 F', 2.5% span length in 'LRA 5166' x 'PA F' and 'Pam 1' x 'PAF'.
