Identification of Tapesia yallundae Wallwork & Spooner, teleomorph of Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides (Fron.) Deighton var. herpotrichoides, the causal agent of eyespot of wheat in southern Chile

From wheat (Triticum aestivum) culms collected at the end of January 1995 from farmland affected by a severe outbreak of eyespot, located in southern Chile, the presence of a small (0.2 to 0.5 mm diameter), black apothecia at the base of the culms were observed using a stereomicroscope. On analysing these structures, cylindrical to fusoid asci of 35 to 38 micro m x 5.9 to 7.4 micro m were also observed.
