Impact of desiccation on biology of Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus snails

Impact of desiccation on biology of Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus snails

Egyptian Journal of Schistosomiasis and Endemic Infectious Diseases 25: 93-109

An experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of desiccation on some biological parameters of Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus snails. The snails were exposed to either complete or partial desiccation. Complete desiccation was carried out in dried plastic jars while in the partial ones, the snails were exposed to filter paper and saturated with dechlorinated water. Desiccation periods were 1 or 3 days followed by recovery (1, 4, 6 and 8 days).
