The effect of slash and burn practices (jhum) and subsequent management of sloping land with different cultivation methods including contour grass hedges, perennial horticultural crops, improved varieties and scientific management practices were studied and its impact on soil conservation, fertility and productivity were evaluated in a field study during 1996-97 to 1999-2000.
