The Himalayan region is subject to significant and uncertain climate variability. The Himalaya, which is a globally important but fragile ecosystem, is also known as the water tower of the Earth's surface and has rich repositories of biological diversity. The climate variability brings several impacts, i.e. variable rainfall patterns, melting of glaciers, increased runoff, flooding and water scarcity.
