Abstract
The important role of man-animal interactions on the productivity of farm animals is discussed, with reference to positive handling, the effects that the attitudes, motivation and behaviour of farm workers can have on animal welfare, and the inverse relationship between animal fear and productivity. The relationship between the stockman and the animals in his care has a strong influence on animal behaviour and welfare. Correct management can improve reproductive performance and reduce overall production costs.
