Modified colorimetric assay for susceptibility testing of azole antifungal drugs against Candida species

Modified colorimetric assay for susceptibility testing of azole antifungal drugs against Candida species

Journal of Clinical Microbiology 42(4): 1790-1793

We modified a rapid susceptibility assay (RSA) for antifungal susceptibility testing of azoles based upon glucose utilization. This modified RSA method provides quantitative endpoint readings in 6 h. In this study, the modified RSA and the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards M27-A methods were used to determine the MICs of fluconazole and itraconazole for 118 Candida isolates. Yeast nitrogen base containing 0.12 g of glucose per liter was used for the modified RSA method.
