Non-antibiotic treatment of postpartum dairy cows with fever and metabolic disorders

Non-antibiotic treatment of postpartum dairy cows with fever and metabolic disorders

Professional Animal Scientist 19(6): 429-434

Body temperature was monitored in Holstein cows (n=135) for 7 days postpartum (PP) to evaluate non-antibiotic treatment in cows displaying fever, metabolic disorders (MD), or both (USA). Cows were considered to have fever when body temperatures were >39 degrees C for primiparous cows and >39.5 degrees C for multiparous cows. Effects of fever and MD on subsequent milk production and reproduction were determined.
