The pharmacokinetics of oxytetracycline (OTC) were investigated in coloured Mohair goats, after the intravenous (i.v. at 10 and 20 mg/kg body weight) and intramuscular (i.m. at 10 and 20 mg/kg body weight) injection of a conventional and a long-acting formulation of OTC. Plasma concentration were determined by HPLC. The Pharmacokinetic parameters were described by a two-compartment open model. After i.v. administration of the CF, the elimination half life was 8.935 h, MRT was 6.844 h and AUC was 80.220 micro g h/ml. Four hours after i.m. injection of OTC (Tmax) mean peak value (Cmax) of 4.751 micro g/ml were observed. Intramuscular bioavailability was estimated as 100.87%. The elimination of half life was 3.816 h, MRT was 13.223 h, and AUC was 80.920 micro g h/ml. The AUC values of the two groups were similar. For long-acting formulation of OTC, the elimination half life was 12.414 h, MRT was 9.198 h and AUC was 122.205 micro g h/ml after i.v. administration of the drug. Four hours after i.m. injection of OTC (Tmax) mean peak value (Cmax) of 6.300 micro g/ml were observed. Intramuscular bioavailability was estimated as 90.41%. The elimination half life was 7.258 h, MRT was 19.826 h and AUC was 110.494 micro g h/ml.
