A field experiment was conducted in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, during 2001 and 2002 on groundnut genotypes SG84 (bunch) and M522 (spreading) to compare direct sowing of pods with the conventional practice of kernel sowing, with and without water soaking, and intra-row spacings of 15, 22.5 and 30 cm. The higher leaf area index (LAI) and 100-kernel weight supported a higher pod yield of M522 than SG84.
