Possibility of markers aided selection for enhancing resistance to spot blotch of wheat caused by B. sorokiniana

Studies conducted in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, during the last 8 years have shown that manipulation for spot blotch (Bipolaris sorokiniana resistance in breeding populations can be done with the help of easily identifiable markers. These marker traits are leaf angle, leaf tip necrosis (Ltn) and ear blotch. Erect Leaf angle and leaf tip necrosis showed a positive effect on resistance whereas ear blotch increased the chances of susceptibility.
