A field experiment was conducted during the 2002 kharif season in Punjab, India, to study the effect of sowing dates (15 March, 5 April and 25 April) on the growth, development and seed cotton yield of American cotton LH-1556. Plants sown on 15 March gave the maximum plant height, leaf area index, monopods per plant, sympods per plant, bolls per plant, boll weight, seed cotton yield per plant and seed cotton yield per ha.
