Prolonging the shelf life of guava (Psidium guajava L.)

Newly harvested fruits of guava Allahabad were dipped in 2% calcium chloride, 200 ppm gibberellic acid, 1000 ppm Bavistin or distilled water (control) for 5 minutes. The fruits were air-dried, packed in polyethylene bags with or without KMnO4-coated silica gel (10 g per bag) wrapped in muslin cloth, and stored at room temperature (27-30 degrees C) and 76% RH. Observations on fruit physiological and quality parameters were recorded at 2-, 4- and 6-day intervals.
