Serum immunoglobulin concentrations of Brown Swiss and Holstein-Friesian calves and their relationship with growth characteristics

The serum IgG and IgM concentrations of Brown Swiss and Holstein-Friesian calves at 2 days of age, at weaning, and at 1 and 4 months of age were determined in this study. A total of 40 calves were utilized. The effect of breed on the concentration of serum immunoglobulins at various ages was insignificant, except for IgM concentration at 2 days of age. Sex only had a significant influence (P<0.01) on the IgM concentration obtained at weaning.
