This chapter initially provides an account of the significance of the development of recreation and tourist trails designed specifically for cycle tourists and their role in promoting principles of sustainability. It focuses in particular on the first section of the 140-mile Sustrans-inspired C2C cycle route that traverses the Lake District National Park, within the north of England, UK.
