Study on bone morphogenetic protein 15 as a candidate gene for prolificacy of Small Tail Han sheep and Hu sheep

Bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) gene which controls the fecundity of Inverdale ewes and Hanna ewes was studied as a candidate gene for the prolificacy of Small Tail Han sheep and Hu sheep. Polymorphism of BMP15 gene was detected in both high fecundity sheep breeds (Small Tail Han sheep and Hu sheep) and low fecundity sheep breeds (Suffolk sheep and Dorset sheep) by PCR-RFLP.
