The compacted clay with D-value in the range of 95 to 85% was used to conduct direct shear tests at constant pressure ranging from 10 to 350 kPa under intact and inundation conditions. At low pressure range 10-100 kPa and ordinary pressure range 50-350 kPa, a considerable difference between the strength parameters c and phi of low pressure range and ordinary pressure range was observed at the intact condition and the difference becoming less at the inundation condition.
