Tissue culture banana cv Poovan (AAB) and cv Nendran (AAB) under wetland condition

A study was conducted to evaluate the field performance of tissue culture (TC)-derived banana cultivars Poovan and Nendran under wetland conditions. The TC-derived Poovan and Nendran flowered 24 and 33 days ahead of the conventional suckers, respectively. There was a 19.2 and 32.5% increase in the number of hands per bunch in TC-derived Poovan and Nendran, respectively. An increase in the number of fingers per bunch, i.e. 40.6 (Poovan) and 27.4% (Nendran), was observed in TC-derived bananas.
