Tourism and socio-economic development - a case study of Tirupati



Tourism management: the socio economic and ecological perspective: 92-106



The positive and negative effects of foreign tourism on developing countries is are discussed. The chapter also reviews the effect of domestic tourism in India (pilgrimage and religious tourism) using the case of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, as a renowned centre of Hindu pilgrimage for centuries.
