Tulip virus X (TVX) associated with lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) variegation: first report of TVX in the USA

One of the most popular clones of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) showed bright variegation symptoms. Double-stranded RNA was extracted from the variegated clone and sequenced. TVX 1F, TVX 1R and TVX 2F, TVX 2R primers were developed and used in RT-PCR to test for TVX in 4 variegated clones of M. officinalis from Oregon and Washington, USA, as well as Gomphrena globosa indicators with symptoms.
