The use of vinasse as a fertilizer through fertigation for sugarcane plantations represents a high potential pollutant source for soils and groundwater. Thus, it is necessary to monitor it with the purpose of assessing groundwater quality. Among the components of vinasse, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) is the most important parameter in terms of pollution indicators. However, the laboratory analysis of BOD is a complex operation and can last for a few days.
