This comment agrees that new directions and debates are needed in relation to NGO roles in ourism and development in the developing world. A decommodified research paradigm is one way of looking at this. However, it is argued that a paradigm such as that proposed by Wearing et al., whose starting position is the assertion of the moral superiority of ecocentrism over humanism, has decided its answer before asking the question.
