Estimation of avoidable yield losses caused by boll rot in cotton

The yield losses in cotton due to boll rot (caused by microflora, mainly fungi) were estimated during 1999-2000 cropping season in Nanded, Maharashtra, India. During mid-October, 40 plants were selected randomly and total number of healthy and rotted bolls were picked up and counted for estimating average number of bolls per plant in rainfed and irrigated cotton ecosystems. The average plant population was 50 000/ha.
