Sixty fungal isolates belonging to 9 genera isolated from poultry waste were screened for ureolytic activity. Aspergillus versicolor isolate was found to be the most potent and selected for further study. The time required for maximum intra- and extra-cellular production of urease was 6 and 8 days, respectively. Maximum urease production was recorded at urea concentration of 15 g/litre for both extra- and intra-cellular enzymes.
