Induced mutants show genetic variability in quantitative characters of desi cotton (Gossypium arboreum) and American cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

Seeds of different cultivars of desi (HD 123 and HD 107) and American cotton (HS 6) were subjected to combined mutagenic treatments, i.e. 10 or 20 kR of gamma-radiation plus 0.25% EMS (ethyl methanesulfonate), and raised to obtained the M1 and M2 generations. Forty-one mutants (2 from HD 123; 38 from HD 107; and one from HS 6) were selected and grown in the M3 generation along with their respective controls during kharif 2003 in Hisar, Haryana, India.
