Management of bacterial leaf spot disease of betelvine (Piper betle L.)

The control of bacterial leaf spot disease (Xanthomonas campestris pv. betlicola (X. axonopodis pv. betlicola)) infecting betelvine in West Bengal, India was investigated using antibiotic treatments. The following chemicals showed good in vitro results and were used for in vivo experiments: streptomycin, terramycin, streptocycline, roxithromycin, ofloxacin and bacterimycin at 100, 200, 500 and 1000 ppm. Petioles were dipped in preparations for 17-18 h prior to inoculation with the bacteria.
