Using acoustic analysis to presort warp-prone ponderosa pine 2 by 4s before kiln-drying

Wood and Fiber Science 38(2): 206-214

ISSN/ISBN: 0735-6161

This study evaluated the potential of acoustic analysis as presorting criteria to identify warp-prone boards before kiln drying. Dimension lumber, 38 by 89 mm (nominal 2 by 4 inches) and 2.44 m (8 feet) long, sawn from open-grown small-diameter ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) trees in Idaho, USA, was acoustically tested lengthwise at green condition.
