A comparison of body conformation and dairy performance of local black and white and local black and white x holstein friesian cows in three subsequent lactations

A comparison was made of dairy performance, fertility, culling rate, body measurements, and body weight of local Black-and-White (cb) and cb .times. Holstein-Friesian (hf) cows from 2 herds producing 4000 kg and 5000 kg milk a year, respectively. Depending on lactation and productivity of a farm crossbreds gave 4314-5577 kg milk and 165-215 kg fat, i.e. 16-30% more than cb cows. However, the content of fat in milk was lower by 0.04-0.13 per cent units. Crossbreds reached the age of the first calving earlier and their third lactation terminated 37-41 days earlier. The fertility in both groups was similar. The only reason for higher culling rate found in cb cows was low productivity. Height at withers, point of shoulder-to-pin length, depth and width of forechest were bigger in crossbreds. Although their body weight was 20 kg higher they were narrower at rump.
