A craniometric study of skulls of uttar pradesh india

Journal of the Anatomical Society of India 28(3): 127-131

Adult human skulls (300) were selected on the basis of systematic sampling technique from 600 skulls available. Various measurements of the skulls were taken and the possible indices were calculated. The mean cranial index was 74.35 .+-. 4.15, length-height index was 74.74 .+-. 3.52. Breadth-height index was 100.65 .+-. 4.10, gnathic index was 94.35 .+-. 4.6, nasal index was 52.73, left orbital index was 87.3 .+-. 7.74 and the right orbital index was 88.7 .+-. 7.01. These were compared with data of other workers. There is a highly significant correlation between the cranial index and the length-height and breadth-height indices. There is no significant correlation between the cranial index and the nasal and gnathic indices. Although there was a difference between the right and left orbital indices, it was not statistically significant.
