The influence of a balanced feeding regime on milk production, gross efficiency and net efficiency in Karan Swiss cows for 1 complete lactation was studied. Individually-fed cows were compared with group-fed cows for milk production. Maximum yield could be obtained only when quality and quantity of the total ration were optimal. Better feed efficiency might be due to high-quality green fodder. The monthly milk yield data revealed that there was a significant drop in milk yield during the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 9th mo. of lactation, in group-fed cows in comparison to individually-fed cows. The mean peak milk yield in the individually fed and group-fed cows was recorded during the 4th and 5th mo. of lactation, respectively.
