Abstract
Description is given of a petrified rhizome of Gleichenia collected from Pakur in the Rajmahal Hills, Bihar. It is provided with a mixed protostele with 8-9, mesarch protoxylem points in the peripheral of the xylem. Pericycle is well-developed and distinct from phloem cells. Comparison is made with the fossil as well as living material [G. longissima and Actinostelopteris pakurense] of allied rhizome.
